Last one

Here is the last one of the year. We have a week off so enjoy your Saturday without a race. On the 17th we will be heading out again for another great day of cross. Hopefully we get some snow. We will be setting up the day before. I will like to be out there around 2:30 to 3 so we can be done by 5. I know many of you that is hard but if you can make it great. If it is really windy we will just place the stakes barriers and not run the tape until the next morning. Please take time to sign up and let's finish this year off with a bash. If you are not racing come out and enjoy the event. It is fun to watch and those who are racing love to have the crowds cheering. If you want to try to race come out and bring a mountain bike or ask around to borrow a cross bike. I want to see a huge turn out of our team to this one. Boys / Girls in blue need to represent. We do have an all women's race so come out and have fun.

Race Help

I can be there when ever you need help. Are we setting up on Friday? I can help either way to set up. I should also be availible to take down as well. My two teenage boys should also be availible. Brian will be racing so he can't help on the registration. I have a 14 year old that may be able to help on registration.

Chris's picture

Yes.

I have a 14 and an 18 year old racing in the last race too. But we'll all be there again too.

Jerseys

Hey Steve & Chris, Do any of your kids need to borrow a Team Reel jersey? I have several that they are more than welcome to wear. Harris, I am trying to clear my schedule so I can help set up Friday. I will keep you posted.

In for Friday

I am planning on helping set up this Friday. I will be there between 3:30 and 4:00. Last time with Steve L. Dan G. and Chris H. helping out we were able to make pretty quick work of things. Any additional help would be great! If you can make it we will see you there. Hope to see a bunch out at the race as well.

Setup Friday

I can be there at any time. 2:30 or 3

Chris's picture

I'll be there.

I would also like to set up a camera to do a time lapse of a part of the set-up. Are we doing something more involved in the big open area?

harrismc's picture

Not sure

I am not sure what we are planning for the big open area. We will do some and no Chris and Ladd it will not be a triple wheel of death.

ladd's picture

Don't get me wrong,

I love the wheel. Kennedy called it "wheel of fun"! I think it makes it fun for spectators, it's fun to talk about, and I even think it's fun to ride. But I think once a year is plenty. I agree with no more wheels this year.

But here's a thought. For the sand this time, how about starting at the extreme east end, no crazy corners or anything, and basically go the whole way to the south-west end? :) I think it would fit fine under the rules, since it could be called a 'natural' obstacle, don't you agree?

(e) Artificial sand pits shall be between 40 and 80 meters in length and at least 6 meters wide, on a straight part of the course. The entrance and exit to a pit shall be at the same level as the course (no drop-off or step up)

BTW, the UCI rule for courses is no longer than 3.5km, which google says is:
3.5 kilometers = 2.17479917 miles

So our first course would have been legal without modification, right?

harrismc's picture

Yes

Yes it would have been fine without any mods. But I am glad we did the mods. I was thinking of doing a longer sang section but we did it one year were they dropped off into the sand and I hated it. It just sucked. I like the idea. Lets get some more on this forum. I am going to take my bike out tomorrow and doing a little playing before I set up to just experiment with things.

Spec

Spectator area: It would be nice to have a couple of long switchbacks in the flat, so that you spend about a minute in that area, spectators can watch you, riders can see each other. That's what is great about the wheels, but any cool and novel shape will do.

Also, remember I am setting up a cam for time lapse so it would be nice if we spend in that area. :) #gettheshot

Couldn't make it Friday

Thought I might be able to break away from work earlier. But I didn't make it for Friday night setup. I'll be there Saturday morning to help with any remaining work.

You can't count on me this time --

I was in, then 100% out (out of town), and now the dates/times are shifting. Either way, don't count on me this time and I'll make it if I can.
