Hello from the new guy

Hey all,

Just a quick introduction. My name is Aaron Bronner. I'm a Boise native who moved back to town 3 years ago after school and post grad work. I've been riding casually for the last 5 years, however haven't dedicated much attention to what I've been doing. I've done a small number of races and last year after barely improving on my previous time at the BBHC decided I needed to train with others rather then constant solo training. Suck at hills, but like them the best for training. Haven't done anymore than 30-40 minute sessions on a trainer 3-4 times per week this spring. Am recovering from an elbow surgery and have just been green lighted for outdoor riding. Have a kid and a pregnant wife so time is limited...

Looking forward to periodically slowing your group rides down until I inevitabley peel off the back. This year I'm hoping to ride the Warm Lake 4 summit (2 or 3 summits distance) and BBHC again, though thats up in the air as my wife is due 9/1.

Cheers

Aaron

Welcome!

Hi Aaron, thank you for posting and welcome to our club. A lot of us post our "planned" rides on here and any club rides, announcements, etc as well.

Sorry about the picture

Sorry about the picture (Fat(?), Mr Hanson(?), Hanson(?))...I thought Danny DeVito was riding for Lampre. And Danny Devito and Lampre are like peanut butter and chocolate: two good things made great by association. I'll change pics soon.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Out of curiosity how many people are in the club? Second, how opposed to slow riders are you guys? I need to figure out how much training I need to get under my belt prior to slamming the breaks on your group rides. Again, I'd like to emphasis I'm not a great rider and have struggled with longer distances - the furthest I've ridden consecutively was about 65 miles and that didn't end well.

Welcome Aaron!

We've currently got 53 riders on the official club email list, including yours now. Some of these folks are a lot more active than others though. Some of us race, some ride only the charity events, some ride with their kids to the park, and some show up to cheer. We've probably got 25 that we'll actually see out riding throughout the year and we've got about a dozen guys that show up to some of the misc races in the area. We've got members that only ride road or mountain or cross... and guys that love all 3 with everything in between.

Basically our only club requirement is that we need our members to help keep things running by offering to lead a club ride at least one time per year, and also volunteering at at least one of the races we put on. As you may have seen Harris post in another note, we currently put on 3 cyclocross races in the fall and will be asking for help (setup, registration, teardown, etc) at these events as the dates get closer.

Thanks for the info. Just

Thanks for the info. Just wondering, but does the Treasure Valley Cycling Club have a facebook page? It'd be a nice easy way to keep track of group rides...

I'm not a cyclecrosser, but my in laws are huge into it (previous national champ/current 2nd in nationals with one brother in law and a 3rd placer in nationals with the other) so I'd definitely be down to help with some races

Ebola

Cyclocross is an infectious disease, if you come in contact, it will consume you. I know. I was not interested. I now have a bike and did 8 races last year. You have been warned. :)

Sorry no facebooks

Sorry, no facebook page for the club. It's all about this website and I'll blast out a few lone emails out throughout the year too if it's more important.

We do have an RSS feed for new posts here though... plug this URL into your favorite reader to stay on top of things. If you want to get really crazy (like me), plug the feed into a Boxcar type app on your phone and never be out of the loop.
