I heard some buzz about maybe doing the handicap race in Glenns Ferry. Is anybody going to give it a whirl? I'm sure Chris is. I'm kicking it around... last race of the year and all. 45 miles is chump change compared to you guys' recent rides, eh?!
I debated back and forth what to do. I would really like to race! I also want to put in long miles in prep for LOTOJA as this will probably be my last real big ride; and not be gone all day either. I guess my final decision was to not race. I am bummed not to race and want to mix in more racing next year for sure.
In fact, I propose we have a meeting sometime around the first of the year to look over the race calender and identify a few races that a few of us can commit to. We have enough of us that if we just plan ahead we should be able to have several team members for support. Poor Chris has been flying solo.
It appears that some of us are leaving Hobble Creek sometime between 4:45-5:00 and doing a short loop. We will meet back at Hobble Creek to unload the lights and meet up for a long ride at 6:30. We have not established a route yet but I believe most of us would like to get in another 100 miles. If we do a ride that stays closer to town anybody who does not want to do the full 100 miles (not including the first ride) can take off when they want.
Eric that sounds fun but I need to not be gone all day. Still working on getting my yard going and everything else moved in. So I am hoping to join the morning crew, not the 4:45 crew but a later one.
Just found out that Isaac has a football game in Hailey tomorrow morning at 10:00 so I am out for the Hobble Creek ride. Just spoke to Dan, and I'm hoping we can connect in Hailey around 11:00 and I'll ride back with you guys to Smiley and then back to Hailey. Sounds painful....
What are the odds of that one working out? NICE! :) I figured Ladd was just posting that bit of info to confuse and make us jealous. Turns out it was a legit callout, eh.
Put me on the manifest with the 4:45 departure group.
I was talking with this beautiful woman in my home over lunch just a few minutes ago - my daughter was calling her "mom" or something - anyways, I think she was saying something about how it's the last Saturday before school starts and blah, blah, blah, and kids want to do something fun, yada, yada, yada, and the next thing I know I'm registered for something "fun" at 10 AM on Saturday.
I'm not entirely sure what it is I'm signed up for.
My first thought was that she signed me up for the race in Glenn's Ferry. However, after pondering this further, I don't think this is it, since: a) three of my children are signed up for the same activity; b) none of my kids are UCI licensed; and c) this event appears to be limited to people who can ride two-wheeled bicycles.
So as it stands now, I've got a hard stop at 10. I'll peel away from the larger group early.
Anyone who would like to hit the last race of the year is welcome to join me.
As for next year, as the self-appointed captain of the Team Reel race team, there will be consequences for those not racing. Stiff punishments handed out to those who do not participate and pull my sorry old butt around. We have so many talented guys, we should be able to create some opportunities for some of our guys to be successful if we put some early fitness together and coordinate.
We can do it... (cue music: Battle Hymn of the Republic)
for those who say it's over..
"Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Heck no! And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough... [thinks hard] the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go! [rides out, alone; then returns] What the **** happened to the Team Reel I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? I'm not gonna take this. LET'S DO IT!!"
I've hear both 45 or 54 miles but whichever it is, I think the race miles will feel like 100 when I'm done. 4 laps with a little hill to grunt up 4 times. These last two 100+ mile weekends should put some gas in my legs for Saturday.! I'm signed up for the Master 35 Cat 3 road race. Chris, you got room to carpool? I'm at 841-one736
I'm unfortunatly out. Sad that I wont be there for the long ride to suffer once again. It's has been fun. Looking forward to the next 100+ ride. Hope there will be more. You guys have fun. I'll be jet skiing in McCall.
Is there a group huddling at 6:30? If there is, I'll do a couple hour ride beforehand and then meet up with the larger group at 6:30. If there isn't a 6:30 group rolling, I'll do a route that doesn't require a loop back to Hobble Creek like the Horseshoe / Emmett Loop or Bogus. Anyone interested in this?
I'm prob in for the 6:30 plan though. I think I've been a bit aggressive jumping back into things again and my lower back is not happy with that. It's currently riding a fine line between "ok" and "wrecked"... so with all my back issues in prior years, I start to get a bit gun shy when those familiar pains make a comeback. I might turn around with Matt for ~3hrs worth, depending on how things shake out.
So it looks like there are a few meeting at my place to depart at 4:45. I've also talked to a couple that are in for the 6:30 group, and I told Steve O to meet at Eric's place for that. The 4:45 group will meet up with the 6:30 group there, I guess. See you in a few hours!
Sore legs here too. Much better than broken bones though. :(
For those that didn't hear. We were rolling thru a neighborhood when everyone missed an unmarked speed bump, and unexpectedly plowed over it completely unprepared for the jolt. The beast jumped out of nowhere, and Rob and Don hit the deck hard. Last I heard, Don's got a broken rib. Crappy!!!
Those guys had already ridden a few hours before hooking back up with us, so it was several hours into their ride. It happened 18min and 4.5 miles into my ride though, at 6:55:56am.
It's pretty loud when two bikes and people are scraping across the asphalt. We made such a ruckus that a lady came out of her house to check on us. She offered to drive Don home and he took her up on it. It could've been much worse... he hit his head hard enough to crack his helmet in several spots too.

alternate century
Dan and I are going to ride from Smiley Creek to Bellevue and back. Should be ~105 miles. All are welcome to join us!
What?
I need a map. Were is Smiley Creek. Like the one below Galena?
I'm in for a modified Sun Valley ride
Just found out that Isaac has a football game in Hailey tomorrow morning at 10:00 so I am out for the Hobble Creek ride. Just spoke to Dan, and I'm hoping we can connect in Hailey around 11:00 and I'll ride back with you guys to Smiley and then back to Hailey. Sounds painful....

In with a twist

Chump miles

Thanks Chris
We need someone to kick us in the butt and fire us up.
Wish I was IN

Ride Idea. . .

FYI, my 10 AM time constraint is now at 9:30!
early
A couple hours *before* 6:30?! That's hardcore!
I'm prob in for the 6:30 plan though. I think I've been a bit aggressive jumping back into things again and my lower back is not happy with that. Bogus Hillclimb
Climbing Bogus tomorrow morning ~8:00 AM or so if the people not getting up before the Rooster's do are interested :).
Bogus would be cool
I have not even attempted the bogus climb this year. That would be fun.
Update

Update
Woke up this morning with sore legs, so I guess that means we had a good ride. Thanks for riding up with hill with me. I know I am slow and slow.
Me too
Sore legs here too. Much better than broken bones though. :(

Sux
No way! So sorry to hear that. That is terrible. How far into the ride did that happen?
Depends
Those guys had already ridden a few hours before hooking back up with us, so it was several hours into their ride. It happened 18min and 4.5 miles into my ride though, at 6:55:56am.

Ouch!
Don,
Sorry to hear that, here is to a speedy recovery.
