The price for these won't be less than $1000 ever; it just hasn't dropped in price at all to this point, and there really isn't any competition. We can't expect $500 when they start with a $400 crank anyway.

Well the cranks of course won't be down to $500. But with new ideas and concepts being developed we will see other types of good power meters drop in price. IT might not ever get to $500 but with competition just barely getting started I think we might see a drop in these. I won't ever end up buying any of them anyways. I don't ever even look at my heart rate let alone a bunch of other numbers.
I agree that we'll never see a $500 power meter in the cranks or hubs. However, I'm betting the technology moves into the pedals / pedal axles, which should bring the price down to a more digestible number. Plus, a power meter in the pedals will allow you to swap between bikes pretty easily. If it goes there - which Look and Speedplay appear to be working on - it should open the market up for this stuff to the weekend warriors. Keeping my fingers crossed anyway. . .
Cool, but
I'm still on the sidelines until these things hit the $500 price point. I give it two years.
Agreed
I agree. I won't be buying one any time soon.
No price drops
