Subject: [Idahobikeracing] Another Idaho cycling death
Unfortunately we have lost another Idaho cyclist to a collision with a motor vehicle. Last Thursday evening around 7:00 p.m. David Webster was riding east on Falls Avenue a few miles east of Twin Falls when a 22 year old westbound driver pulled out to pass another vehicle and struck Mr. Webster head on. The speed limit on the section road is 50 mph and the roadway is rather narrow. Webster was struck about 30 to 50 yards from where the double yellow center line gives way to a dashed yellow line. Mr. Webster was apparently killed instantly.
Many riders in the Twin Falls area use Falls Avenue to gain access to the roads to the east and south of town that have little traffic. Numerous area riders have experienced vehicles pulling out to pass on the 2 mile section of road between 3300 East, where a bike lane ends, and 3500 East where most of the traffic turns to head south to Kimberly. It is a very unnerving situation, as you can imagine.
Unfortunately, there has been very little local coverage of this accident. I am not aware of the funeral plans for Mr. Webster, a local triathlete, but if information becomes available and involves a procession of cyclists we will let everyone know.
