Dear Friends in the Idaho Cycling Community,
Lately, it seems that we are too often hearing about another cyclist’s death following a collision between the cyclist and a motor vehicle. In an effort to do our part to curb these incidents and keep the roads safe for all, a few local community volunteers have agreed to put on a panel discussion to discuss bicycle/motorist interactions, current and proposed laws designed to keep cyclists safe on the roads, and general safety information for motorists and cyclists, alike.
We have been very fortunate to assemble an all-star panel to discuss these issues. Moderated by Boise City Council Candidate TJ Thomson, the event will include the following speakers:
Kristin Armstrong – ‘08 Olympic Gold Medalist, Women’s Time Trial
Senator Elliot Werk – Idaho State Senator, District 17
Sergeant Clair Walker – Bike Patrol, Boise Police Department
Officer Anthony Dotson – Boise Police Department
Thomas J. Lloyd III – Attorney, Johnson & Monteleone, L.L.P.
The event will take place on July 16, 2009, starting at 7:00pm, on the patio of the Falcon Tavern (new location: 705 W. Bannock St. in downtown Boise). Please be sure to arrive early, as we expect a much larger turnout than the patio can likely hold.
I wanted to send out a special invitation to the cycling clubs around Boise of which I am aware. Your attendance and participation is key to showing the non-cycling members of the community that cyclists are making every effort to be as responsible on the roads as possible, and that we only expect the same courtesy from motorists.
