We all rock it tomorrow! Pre-rode the course today and boy we're in for some fun. Lots of snow, ice, frozen ruts, etc... it's going to be super technical and a bit crazy. Also, it's supposed to snow another 2-4" tonight and then another 1-2" tomorrow during the day. Steve heads out at 8:30. Rob, Tom & Ladd are off at 9:30. Harris and I finish things off at 3:30. We were hoping the course loosens up a bit and maybe the much starts showing the ground by our race but who knows as it's not going to get as warm as we originally thought. Watching today's races were great. There are some spots on the course that the carnage is eminent. We watched a pile of women get tangled up in several spots today. Tomorrow is going to be a blast!
Oh man... what a weekend!!! Check out the crash in Rob, Tom & Ladd's race. Ladd rode the rest of the race with no brakes due to this pileup. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YC7nZtV3its
Nice! Cool picture and video, great exposure for Team Reel and congratulations to you all! I spoke to Harris and he told me a bit about the course, it sounded like a true cross experience. I am glad no one got hurt and everyone had a good time. Sorry Ladd on your bad luck, watching the video it looks like you didn't end up going down so there is that positive spin on it. Have you had 3 bad things happen now, maybe you run is finally over!
What an unbelievable weekend!!!! Can't wait until next year. We all came back super motivated. Other than none of us were in top form everything was perfect. The house, the course was amazing, and the large rowdy crowds very very cool. Wish we could give you an accurate picture, but as you know it is impossible to describe in words.
Awesome pic of Eric on CX Mag.
Tom, Steve, and the Dennings caught some really cool pictures and video.
It was amazing. Even without Steve's trailer it would have been incredible. (Ok, maybe not -- his trailer made life sweet!) Eric was getting Ryan Trebon's tweets, they were along the lines of "best crowds ever" and "Bend is the new standard". Basically, I can't imagine a better weekend of bike racing.
I'm considering this year as good preparation for 2010! Hopefully next year I can have a better race, but I still feel totally satisfied with the trip. (Since I crashed 4 times in the warm up laps, I'm pretty much calling it a success that I never went down in the actual race. However, with just the rear brake I was sliding around a lot more!)
Also, we've worked out a plan for each of us to take home a national championship. I'm working out my long-long-long-long-long range goals: In 2037, I'll win the Masters 70+ Division! The next year, Tom will beat me to become champ, and the next year Rob will nip him at the line for his jersey. That gives me about 28 years to train...
Here's some of the video clips I took... I've got quite a bit more. :) Maybe I'll edit it all up pretty sometime with the other footage when I've got nothing better to do.
OK, here's an awesome video I found of Harris and mine's race (30-34). Harris is visible in a handful of good clips. I really like this video... lots of sweet slow motion high def that gives a great feel for the race.
I just ran across this a minute ago and was going to post a link! This is a great vid -- makes me want to ride 'cross! Harris got some great shots in there, I really liked the one at just over 1 minute where he's riding towards the camera.
Not only does the lead change several times in the final lap and there is lots of bumping, but with the race on the line Zach McDonald pulls off an X-Up going down one of the steep descents.
I wish I could be in, unless some kind of miracle happens though I am out. I love the look on Harris' face when he goes down if you slow the video down.

Kodak
It's a kodak ZI8... pretty much the same as those HD flip's out too.

another great find
That video is great Ladd!! Even Harris fell down there, eh? :) Guess that means I wasn't going fast enough.
Sigh
I wish I could be in, unless some kind of miracle happens though I am out. I love the look on Harris' face when he goes down if you slow the video down.
