Dead shifters - bike component feedback
Hey everyone - I am soliciting feedback for bike components. I went for a ride last night and my shifter died. It no longer indexes for a down shift. As you know I ride a older Kestrel with 8 spd dura ace components. So the trick is figuring out what is compatible - and from what I have seen so far nothing is. Upgrading to 10 spd right now is out of the budget, unless you know of some killer deals out there. I figure some of you have been riding and building road bikes longer than I have and might have some good ideas as to where to shop for components. Harris, do you have a connection on components or just entire setups?
I was wondering if anyone has ever cracked into a sti shifter? My thinking is that maybe I can get the return spring fixed somehow. Or does anyone happen to have a crazy box of parts with shimano 7400 dura ace shifters laying around.
Any feedback would be great. I hear bits and pieces about members selling bikes, (Ladd or Harris I think) or have used bikes for sell, so let me know about that as well - I am trying to list all my options.

Well this is a hard one. The old 7400 8spd DA is hard to come by. Any 8spd road components are hard to come by. I would say your cheapest route would be to check Ebay and see what is being sold for used stuff. I have no idea how to work on the insides of those shifters.
