Yeah! Bring it!!
I don't think I'm in any shape to be racing with all of my issues lately but I'll see you guys there! We'll see if I can hang for a few laps anyway. So who's going?
Man... 8pm start though? I thought last year's 7:30 was late. The sun is going to be down before we finish.
Team Hanson
Team Hanson (a subsidiary of reel theatre cycling CLUB) will be there and ready to rock!!
A little help!!
Team Hanson was feeling fast and fresh tonight despite a moderate cold. Eric showed up, but he is still recovering from his injury and wasn't his usual blistering fast self. I went with as many Bode/Bob's attacks as I could until one finally stuck that I couldn't cover. Left me and 2 Byrds kids with junior gears to man the chase. Needless to say we never caught the break. Maybe I could talk a couple of you fast guys into coming out next week (cough cough rob) (uhhh mmm Tom). We could win something if we could split up the work. Otherwise it'll be Team Bob's and Bode vs. Team Hanson again next week.
Team Hanson
Glad to ride for team Hanson, I'll be there next week. If you don't mind, bring said GoPro camera. :)
Who else is coming next week? ROLL CALL!
I'll be there
I'll be there again but sure hope my legs feel a LOT better then they did this week. I cannot remember a time they felt so horrible in a race. Completely flat, with just absolutely no energy, power or snap at all... it was pitiful. I only lasted like 10 laps. That bout of sciatica I had flare up wimpified them good... Time to build back up!
here!
I'll be there next week.
Tonight!
Come out tonight and race or just watch and cheer. If you are worried about getting blown out the back, I'll be right there with you. :)
5/18 Crits Canceled
Well seems like a premature call to me, but the official word is that the crits have been canceled tonight. Bummer.
I personally think that those 50mph wind gusts in past weeks are more dangerous than a little water on the course. The way the corners have been smoothed out I don't think some damp pavement will matter much. Anyway, not my decision... but FYI no racin tonight. :)
lame!
I was so ready to race in the rain.
Tonight
So out of the 4 Reel racers on the scene tonight, 2 were taken out in wrecks. :) I'm not exactly sure what happened in Chris's crash other than his wheel looked completely mangled and there were people laying down in the course! They neutralized the race for a couple laps while the carnage was cleaned up. That one happened only a couple laps into the B race.
Same race, on the final lap... final corner... some idiot cut two guys off right in front of me really bad. I thought I was lined up for a decent finish being about 5th wheel, but the guy in front of me was literally skidding sideways at 30mph and somehow stayed up. I was in the same boat, rear wheel hopping/skidding along sideways trying to avoid catastrophe. I have NO idea how I managed to stay upright but the chain reaction caused a guy behind me to completely t-bone into my rear wheel while I was also leaning and performing a balancing act. Somehow I rolled away but the guy who hit me went down super hard. My rear wheel is toast. Boy do I wish I had the helmet camera rolling tonight... dang!
Matt pulled out a 3rd place in the A race though and I think Nate managed 5th in his race. It was still a good night of racing all in all!
Ouch!
Sounds like an expensive crit! Painful too.
Crits
Got to love the carnage crits seem to always cause. I hope everyone is ok and nothing too expensive ends up happening.
Shortest race ever
The crash was not too bad actually. skinned knee, elbow, butt, and pinky. Broken helmet, bent rear hanger, scuffed shifter, and taco'd front wheel (that's the worst). The Reel kit survived with no major damage.
It happen when the rider in front of me hit a cone and deflected it into my front wheel, which broke a spoke. I raised my hand to signal I was out and some guys tried to pass on the outside, locked handlebars with me, and I was upside down. We hit HARD. I am blessed have not been more severely hurt, very thankful actually.
After further review, the same guy who hit the cone and caused our chain reaction at the beginning of the race was involved in the mess at the end but went down this time.
Bike goes into the shop today which should hopefully mean it will be ready to go by Friday.
LAST CHANCE for 2010!!!
Last chance to get your Tues night crit on tonight. Hope to see you all down there!! Come help Nate & Terry in the Cat 5 field if you're a rookie... these races are perfect for learning the ropes.
Tues Crit Times
Hey Eric, do you know what time the 4-5 race is tonight? I will be there just not sure what the times are. Thanks
hah!
OK Terry... scroll up. :) It's the very first post... heh
My bad. i didn't realize
My bad. i didn't realize those were set times each week. duh. thanks
Great Job!!!
Nate, Terry, Eric, and Harris ALL rocked it tonight. I, however, sucked eggs! Off the back in a new record time. It was awesome to see so much blue on the course tonight, though.
and MATT!
Don't forget fat hansen.
Yeah it was good racing tonight. I tell you though that it's apparent how delirious I get when exhausted. So on that final lap I was following Chris Berry's wheel as we came out of the last corners and was in 2nd spot. Head down... just on the wheel until I opened up the sprint. As we came out of the corner I got up to start sprinting around him and saw a big pile of tires and a bunch of people right in the middle of the course. Totally confused, I though, wow all this wind must have blown those tires right onto the course... then it dawned on me. We were off the course and blasting into the crowd. Whoops... so while I technically came in 2nd it's probably a big DNF for not crossing the finish line... HAH. That corner was a bit sparse on cones though, I promise.
Oh and for those that weren't down there... they're setting up some sort of rally car race course and had a whole bunch of car tires stacked up all over in piles getting ready to lay the course out with those. So it literally was a giant pile of tires. :)
Haha epic!
I was burying myself with my head down too and remember looking up and wondering what those two guys were doing off course headed towards the crowd. I think you guys had everyone behind you hesitating, like you knew something they didn't. It was awesome.
Scared the wiz out of me!
I had pulled up and was coasting through that area and you and Chris came screaming through. I think I honestly wet a little.
And Matt Freakin' Hanson is the coolest racer I have ever known. I need to get on the same juice he is on! He is my hero!
FUN!
Sorry for the late post regarding Tuesday nights races but better late than never. Anyway, I had such a blast! A big thanks to Nate for showing me the ropes for the Cat 5 race and an even bigger congrats to him for his sweet breakaway win. The experience was just what I needed to feel confident for the Twilight. I will definetely be showing up to more Tuesday Night Crits next year. One last thing, for all those who are a little nervous about racing the crits, I never felt like I was in any danger and the pack was really smooth. If I can do it, anybody can. : ) It was just a great evening of fun bike racing! I'm hooked.
Awesome
Great work, Terry! You rode so strong. I was impressed. I can't wait to race with you more next year.
Yeah, next year is gonna be
Yeah, next year is gonna be a lot of fun. I bet we can talk a few more of the guys to come out too.
