Saturday 5/29 ride

nate's picture

A few of us are planning an Eagle-Emmett-Horseshoe-Eagle loop tomorrow, leaving from the Eagle and Floating Feather intersection at noon. The pace will be moderate, no drop, just trying to get in some last minute miles before LP. Who is in??

IN

Mark me down as needing some last minute mileage in the legs before LP. Probably too late, but might as well try.

Uh...

... you looked pretty strong on Tuesday at the crit. I realize 20 miles or speed is not the same at 80 miles of climbing, but you were doing well.

The illusion of fitness

Just call me the illusionist. I literally barely finished the Cycle for Independence last Saturday with Nate dragging me along for the last 15miles after I hit the wall. The week before that, I could not complete 2 dump loops... turned around and coasted home with my tail between my legs.

The key to the crit for me is NOT working and that big B field was perfect for hiding out. :)

For example:
--I had a zero cadence for 19.2% of the race (at ~1min per lap, that's 7 full laps I just coasted)
--I pushed lightly or coasted for 38.6% of the race (under zone 2)
--I pushed "hard" 48% of the time (at threshold pace or higher), which equates to only 17.5minutes of hard work for the entire B race. This would actually be an even lower percentage if I was generally in better shape (I'm almost 40watts off of last years threshold for this time of year, uhg).
--Lastly, half of that "hard" time (25% total race) was spent pushing at over 150% of my threshold wattage. That's the part that hurts, but it's all the resting that makes it possible.

Experienced rider vs. strong rider

Sounds like Eric now understands more fully how the old guys and smart guys beat the strong guys :) I am concerned for completing the ride tomorrow. Going to have to be drafting a lot I think from the get go.

Interested

Usually earlier than that would work better for me, but I'll check with the family and maybe that time would be ok.

Also, anybody planning anything good for the holiday? That will be my last big ride before LP.

Rob's plans

I will do something big, but in the morning. I will either do the same ride, or Dump loop, up 1/2 Bogus, Up Table Rock maybe out to Hill Top or the Damn. I am open to other suggestions. I plan on leaving around 6:30 and being home between 10:30 to 11:00ish. Leaving from my house in Hobble Creek.

Whoah

Stop the presses... did Rob just swear at us? ;)

Chris's picture

Rob, the DAMN is closed to you...

I am heading with a local group (5-6) on the Emmett/Horseshoe Bend loop at 6:00 AM. We'll be picking up another group at Settlers' Park in Meridian at 6:30. Anyone who would like to jump in can meet us there. You should be back by your desired time, Rob. This is a pretty strong group.

But, Rob, we will ride by Black Canyon Damn! Will that work for you?

oops

Ya, I guess I did. You better take me seriously Dang it!!!

In if the weather holds

I think it will be kind of windy, but as long as it won't rain I'd like to tag along....for the noon version of the ride.

I think I asked this before, but how far is that loop?

nate's picture

Cool

It's about 60 miles.

I'm in for the morning ride

I'll hold on as long as I can. I probably need to be back around 10:30 at the latest.

I'll plan on being at Rob's at 6:30.

Chris's picture

Meet up

If not before, we'll look for you guys along the climb before Emmett. It looks like we'll be moving parallel.

ladd's picture

E-E-HB-E for me.

Looks like I can't make Rob's early ride, but I should be ok for the noon ride. Which direction are you coming from? Will you be at Chinden & Eagle at 11:50 or so? If so, then I'll try to link up with you there.

nate's picture

East

But I'll be driving so best to meet at Floating Feather.

Meeting

Ladd, I could meet up with you at your house...that way I could bring back your jersey. What time are you going to roll?

ladd's picture

Let's shoot for 11:40

That should get us to Eagle with plenty of time.

dave5oh's picture

See you then

I'll be there a few before that so I'll be ready to ride at 11:40.

Great Ride!

The noon departure was a success with Brad, Nate, Ladd, Dave and me rolling the loop. We took most of it at a fairly chill pace, which was good since I was already tired when we arrived in Horseshoe. We got all split up on the hill when Nate dropped the hammer and decided to throw down. Boy I barely made it back after that hill but it was def good for me! Fun stuff!

How did the 6am departure turn out?

A.M ride recap

Great to hear the afternoon ride went well. The A.M. ride was awesome as well! Jason, Tony and myself rode to Emmett and met up with Chris and his crew. Now we had 8 guys to keep a steady pace to H.B. We rocked the climb and flew down the hill and flats all the way to Beacon light. We all had a blast and I hope some of the guys that came with Chris will want to ride with us some more or even join this rowdy crew. Can't wait to rock the L.P. 200!!!:)

8 am Ride

Matt Hanson and I took off from his house at 8am. We road some small streets to stay out of traffic and over to Hill Road. We then went and did the dump loop backwards and added the couple mile climb of Cartright. Man that one is a killer. It was a great ride. Sorry my time couldn't meet up with any of you. IT would have been fun. But since I have been out for a couple of months from my back issues my ridding is not the only thing that has suffered. I have a lot of yard and house projects I have to get busting out.

Fun ride

The crew that I brought from South Boise ended up with 90 miles, a good Saturday. All of these guys would look good in Black and Blue. I think they would really like the club experience.

It was a great pace with good group riding. Did anyone else hit the cow poop on the old Horseshoe Bend highway?
