I stumbled onto some CX Nats info this morn and figured I'd post it. But also get things started as far as who's planning on heading to Bend with the crew this year? I'd imagine we need to start thinking about booking a house again sometime soon. We lucked out last year when our house's pipes froze and were able to upgrade to a fancier house. Maybe if we get enough people we could upgrade again.

Notice that they have the 2010 course map up already - http://www.visitbend.com/2010-cyclocross-course-map.pdf Looks like they've kept it similar but changed a few things. There's a bridge now which should be fun. An extra set of stairs! Also more pavement out on the back stretches.
Here's a HUGE change:
"Unlike last year and prior cyclocross races the starting position of each race will be determined by the racer's time in an individual cyclocross time trial performed the day prior to race day." So we don't have to register at 2am this year, but sounds like a TT is in order if we don't want to start in the back. This may require us arriving a day earlier??
Also, something to keep in mind as we get close is the new UCI 33mm max tire width rule, which is likely going to apply to our races according to Mike O who called and talked to Shawn Farrell of USAC. "According to Shawn, all riders over 17 will have to follow the new rule. The measuring device is a slotted instrument 33mm wide and 8" long so any knobs sticking out past the sidewall will be included in the measurement. He thinks they will test at the qualifying TT the day before, but not sure if this will be a Go/No Go test or an FYI."
I have a feeling a lot of our tires are going to be over. My usual goto mix of the Hutchinson Piranha or Bulldog I'm almost positive is too wide.
I'd like to try to hit the age category race as well as the B race this year if we can get out early or even have one crew leaving a day earlier or something.
Anyway, just wanted to start some talk. :)
Tues Night Depart - Ladd, Rob, Terry
Thur Night Depart - Nate, Tom, Chris, Steve
On the fence - Harris, Matt
Out, barring a miracle - Brad, Eric
IN!!!
I want to race the 40-45, the B race, and if I can get it built up maybe try the single-speed as well. Let's roll!
WOW!
A time trial to determine start position huh? Sounds intense, but kinda fun. The course looks like a cool lay out. It would be helpful to know who is planning on going to Nats so we know what size house to rent. BTW, everyone who went last year agreed even if we were not racing we would go to cross nats, because it was so much fun. Plus, don't forget surfing in Bend, Or in December, cool! Actually it was fairly warm:)
Schedule?
Maybe I'm missing it on their website, but has anyone seen a schedule of events? I really want to go but will be limited on days I can get off work.
Schedule
The official schedule isn't posted yet... but here is the link to last years:
http://www.usacycling.org/events/2009/cxnationals/2009CXNatsSchedule.pdf
It will likely be very similar. Last year we took off on Thurs afternoon and arrived later that night at the house. Depending on how many people go, we may need multiple cars anyway which could help with some people arriving/leaving at diff times. I don't think any of us actually raced Friday, we just got out onto the course during open time and fell down on the icy spots a lot.
O Yeah!
Dude, the TT sounds awesome! I am in for the trip to Bend. What day will we be getting back? I am assuming the 13th? If so that works out perfect because my son Braden turns 2 on the 13th. : )
12th
Last year we stayed to watch all the pros finish up until late in the afternoon on the 12th and then just busted out of town straight from there. It was a late night back home, but at least we're back Sunday night.
Fence
I am on the Fence. I am 90% sure I am in but haven't looked it down yet so I am going to say on the fence.
Somebody poke SteveO
I'm sure he's planning on this, I bet he just hasn't read the forum in a while...
And should we just count MattH as 'in'? I'm sure it will only take one race and he'll be addicted like the rest of us.

Here's some more info on the course and the TT:

In
Lemme in! Please lemme in.
A TT for start position huh? Dang, do I have to glue on my knobbies to my HED tri-spoke and rear carbon disc wheels? Do I have to stay in the aero tuck position over the whole course? ;-)
Mod
No knobbies, Tom. Slicks. Hey, I don't make the rules.
Schedule
The official schedule including time trials has now been posted:

Planning for Cross Nats.
I wanted to bring up a couple of items in regards to Nats. First, I have the o.k. from work to leave on Tuesday in order to race the "non championship" race on Wednesday. Who else can leave Tuesday. One point of clarification; I was in Mer. Cycle today and Jeremy W. mentioned if you are a cat 2 you are not eligible for the "non championship" race. I called USA cycling and they confirmed that all you needed was a license and be in the appropriate age cat.
Second, does anyone know when registration opens?
This year sounds like even better than last year, between the "non championship" race, the Time Trial, and the Open race we get three events in. and even more opportunities to cheer for friends.
I can hear the sound of cow bells ringing, music to my cross legs:)
Tues
Registration opens on Tuesday the 12th. It's gonna be a good day... I can feel it. :)
I'll have to figure out my schedule for departure. Leaving on Tuesday does sound a bit tough to pull off but maybe if it's later in the evening. Good thing I'm only a cat 3 I guess.
Registered.
I'm registered... it's official.
https://www.usacycling.org/events/2010/cxnationals/
but the question is:
what category?
(I'm in for the 40-44 for sure, questionable for the 'B' race, and don't have a plan at the moment for a singlespeed, but I'd love to add that race...)
I am in!!!!
I will also be racing the collegiate race! Woohoo! What have I gotten myself into?!?!
In Fo Sho!
I am signed up for both the non-championship race and the championship race. I can not wait! Don't forget the price increase after the 17th.
When do you plan to leave?
Maybe Tuesday after work? I'm working on my schedule right now, and I think I can swing 3 days. Also, are we trying to get a condo again? That was pretty sweet last time. Do we need a new thread for just the travel arrangements, lodging, etc?
Two Crews
It sounds like that may be a good idea as it also sounds like we will have two travel crews. It looks like right now Myself, Ladd, Eric, Steve would like to leave Tuesday after work. Terry would like to leave with us but is still working out details. Harris needs to commit to racing, Harris! Tom can not leave until Wednesday, and I don't know Matt's plans. Chris, what are you thinking? Who else is going? Nate? Tim A? Brad has a legit out since he will be a new Father around then.
As for housing I think the condo with a hot tub is a fantastic plan. However, this year we need to have everyone go surfing with Steve and I.
Lets quickly try and finalize when everyone can be in Bend and then we can plan accommodations accordingly.
Tuesday after work
I'm psych'ed to drink in as much of nat's as possible. Count me in for Tuesday after work.
I think the condo last year was awesome. Let's follow up on that. I'll probably try to keep costs down by bringing granola and hot cereal for breakfast, and then some pasta, sausage, etc for dinners.
Harris -- you had the most national exposure!!! I've seen you on a few videos of last year's race floating around the web. You've gotta come and throw down again!
I'm game for the wave pool. I'll probably worry about busting my shoulder again and stick with the bodyboard, but the surfing was cool.
in!
I'm registered for the championship 30-34 race. At this point I only have Friday off work so it would be a Thursday afternoon departure. Anyone else in that boat?
Racing
So Nate does that mean you are going to start riding your bike again? Didn't see you at the race on Saturday.
Ahh
So that's what I've been forgetting!
Thursday dudes
I'm one of the Thursday dudes. Let's try and hook up and anyone else that's in.
Tom
Registered. Sort Of
So tonight I registered for the Wednesday non-championship race 30-39 but when I tried to register for the saturday championship race I didn't have the option. Apparently the saturday race is just for cats 1,2&3. I will upgrade later in the season so I can make sure I am able to race the championship race. This is gonna be awesome!
Later in the week
I teach classes until Wed. I'm probably a Thursday departure too.
Plans for Cross Nats.
So, it is getting close to time to make reservations for Cross Nats in Sunriver again. Its seems all agreed that was the best option. I can make the reservation again unless someone else wants the privilege. Here is what I have so far, please correct as needed:
In for Tuesday-Sunday: Rob, Terry, Eric, Ladd, Chris, Steve.
In for Thursday -Sunday: Nate and Tom
On the fence: Harris, Matt, and it sounds like Brad will have more important fatherly responsibilities.
Remember for those who have not yet registered about the deadline on Nov. 17th. I think we should book our house as soon as possible so if those on the fence can let me know as soon as possible that would help. In addition if you have any other family members who will be coming that would also be helpful. Thanks!
$$$
What will be the contribution?
$$$ and lodging
Last year we stayed in Sunriver and I have called an gotten 3 options fpr us again this year. Remember Sunriver has Mavericks which is a fitness facility with a pool and wave pool:) You can go to Sunrivers at
http://www.sunrayinc.com and view our three options.
Landrise7:My vote is for this one simply because it is the least expensive at $634.35 for Tues-Sunday
Lowland10: $733.40
Trapper11: This one has a pool table and is $900.70.
They all have hot tubs. I have a 24 hr reserve on Landise 7. Landrise comes to approx. $126 a night, so if we have 6 of us for the first two nights it is like $22 a night. If we have 2 more come Thursday-Sat it is $16 a night. So for the whole week the approx. cost for housing would be $91.55 and for those only staying the three nights it would be $48. Remember that we have a full kitchen which will cut down on food expenses. I hope this helps and let me know what you think. If Landrise looks o.k. I will book it.
